Electrical Substation Monitoring
Amscreen M2M can help Power companies to isolate substation faults in the shortest possible time using a scalable communication solution.
Background
An electrical power substation uses transformers to step down high voltages from the transmission grid for distribution at lower levels to homes and businesses. It has a bus that splits distribution electricity in many directions. Circuit breakers and switches can disconnect it from the transmission grid or from each distribution line, under fault conditions or for maintenance work.
Faults can develop from lightning, overload conditions or damage to equipment. If not isolated quickly, power cannot be switched or restored and the system could be destabilised. Remote Telemetry Units (RTU) that monitor the electrical equipment are often poorly networked, resulting in slow data collection and delay fault resolution.
| Substation Monitoring Solution Amscreen’s GPRS platform offers a highly scalable communication and monitoring solution that can reliably integrate RTU data with the Power companies management systems (in cooperation with suppliers). Benefits Substation monitoring identifies circuit breaker switchovers quickly and restores power to keep the lights on! |
