Unlike PCs which are designed to network together and carry out lots of different functions such as playing DVDs and sending email; machines stand alone and are designed for specific tasks like chill food or vend coffee without any other networking. Whereas we can add “black boxes” to PCs so they can access central servers like company websites; there is no “magic box” that fits all machines to make them “talk”!

Likewise, companies build their own corporate applications and processes in line with their business and customer needs.

This means that some form of integration work is often required to connect real time data from remote machines into companies corporate business applications and processes.
